Architecture and Activism

The studio, whose name is inspired by the golden ratio in architecture and nature, is rooted in the city of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its founders have their origins in the “Porto School” due to their academic and professional paths at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, CRUARB, SRU Porto Vivo, and more recently at the National Fund for Building Rehabilitation.

The projects carried out by the studio’s team reflect an understanding of current society and materialize through action, providing a critical response to the issues at hand with the aim of improving spaces and the well-being of communities. We strive to address social issues through architecture, utilizing art as activism across various intervention areas. We promote solutions that defend natural resources and environmental balance, incorporating concepts of biophilia and circular economy from project conception through construction to the final use of spaces, with innovative zero waste and carbon neutrality solutions in buildings. We have a dedicated team focused on environmental sustainability and research, consistently constructing prototypes of innovative solutions for practical use in architecture. We advocate for social and environmental activism.

In the field of architecture, we develop projects in various areas of intervention and expertise, ranging from the design of residences, building rehabilitation, and cultural heritage preservation to real estate development projects, hotels, residential structures for the elderly, continuous care units, urban planning, and public buildings such as schools, sports stadiums, health centers, and hospitals.

An ongoing commitment of the team that comprises the studio is the participation in Public Design or Design-Build Competitions. The most significant achievements include being awarded 1st place in the Competition for the Vagos School Center, 1st place in the Design Competition for the Caldas da Saúde Health Unit, qualification for the final phase of the Hospital de Fafe competition by prior qualification, and being finalists in the 2014 Acredita Portugal Competition, ranked among the top 10 out of 14,000 submitted projects.
